QuireDeck connects to the BookOrbit server you choose. The app has no ads, analytics, or tracking. Your account and library requests go to that BookOrbit server, not to a QuireDeck account service.
Signing in
QuireDeck sends the server address and credentials you enter to that BookOrbit server to sign you in. It does not send them to the QuireDeck developer. Authentication information is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.
Your library data
QuireDeck receives account information, book details, cover images, media files, progress, bookmarks, annotations, private notes, and activity records from BookOrbit. It sends changes back when you use those parts of the app.
Files kept on the device
Books you download and account data the app caches are stored on your device. QuireDeck keeps local data separate for each BookOrbit server and account. Signing out locks the local data for that account. You can remove downloads from QuireDeck.
Read Aloud
Read Aloud uses the voices on your device unless you choose otherwise. With device voices, the book text stays on your device.
If your BookOrbit server offers voices, you can turn on “Allow server voices” for the signed-in profile. QuireDeck then sends the text being read, plus a small amount of the text after it, to your BookOrbit server. The server passes that text to the speech provider its administrator set up. That provider may run on the server or be an outside service, and its privacy practices are separate from QuireDeck. Voice previews go through the same provider.
QuireDeck keeps the audio it receives in memory while it plays and does not save it. Turning off server voices cancels requests that are still waiting and returns to device voices. A request your server or its provider has already received may still be processed there. Read Aloud does not use the microphone or speech recognition.
The BookOrbit server
The person or organization running the BookOrbit server controls the data stored there. That may be you if you host BookOrbit yourself. If somebody else runs it, ask them about accessing, correcting, or deleting data held on the server. Their privacy practices are separate from QuireDeck.
HTTP and HTTPS
Use HTTPS whenever possible. QuireDeck limits HTTP connections to local or private addresses and asks you to approve them before sending credentials. With HTTP, credentials and other data may be visible to people on the network.
Apple and TestFlight
If you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple may collect crash reports, diagnostics, and feedback under Apple’s privacy terms.
Website support form
If you use the support form on this website, QuireDeck processes the email address and message you provide to respond to your request. The form also includes your name and selected category.
